An 18-Year-Old Gave a Stranger the Shoes Off His Feet, Then Stuck Around to Help
In Maricopa, Arizona, recent high-school grad Jordan Hope stopped for an older man whose shoes were badly worn, slipped off his own slides, and handed them over. A passerby, Yareli Madrid, filmed the moment and shared it in a local community group, where it quickly took off.
Hope didn’t leave it there. He went back into the store, bought the man some candy, and got to talking. He learned the man had lost his wife two weeks earlier and was dealing with painful swelling in his legs. Hope arranged a ride, followed him home, and stayed to talk. He now calls him every day, and a GoFundMe set up to help the man raised about $1,000 in its first day.
