He Went to His First Festival Alone. A Group of Strangers Made Sure He Never Felt That Way.

Adam James, 23, of High Wycombe, England, was nervous about camping solo at Boomtown Festival, a big electronic-music weekend in Hampshire — so nervous his dad Andy worried about him going at all. Then a group of festivalgoers from Bristol asked to borrow his tent mallet, and instead of leaving it there, invited him to camp with them for the rest of the weekend.

“They could have just ignored me, but the fact they saw I was on my own and took me in was just amazing,” Adam said. Andy’s thank-you post to the “lads from Bristol” went viral, and the goodwill kept building from there: Adam has since been booked for DJ gigs, invited to join a DJ academy, and asked back to play his own set at Boomtown in 2027.
